Tips on Staying Positive During The Most Challenging Times

Queens… was this a challenging year for you or was it just me? Thanks to Covid-19, this year was full of ups and downs, starts and stops, worry, stress and disappointments. I’ve never experienced so many challenges jammed packed in one year. Who feels me???

One thing I learned was how to be resilient, accept things and choose to move forward with a positive outlook on life. After all, with Covid or not, life happens to all of us. In this blog, I’ve outlined what’s helped me cope and thrive.

OUR THOUGHTS CREATE OUR REALITY

You can’t control what happens in the world but you can control yourself. Choosing to live your life in peace and being mindful of your reactions is an invaluable lesson to learn. It’s taken me years to understand that I am in full control of myself, my mindset and how I react to people and situations. I’m still human and I too have moments that get to me, but I now have the tools I need to check myself.

FIXED VS GROWTH MINDSET

There are many different approaches to take when shifting your mindset. I personally have found that the Fixed VS Growth Mindset has helped me tremendously. Psychologist Carol Dweck, from Stanford University, was the first researcher to explore the idea of fixed and growth mindsets. I’d love for you to adopt a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. Choose to focus on solutions and lessons learnt from opportunities instead of focusing on the problem.

Fixed mindset means that your character, intelligence, and talents are static and can’t change. Whereas a growth mindset means that you believe your intelligence and talents can be developed overtime.

Choosing to  grow and learn from obstacles and opportunities instead of throwing your hands up and simply giving up leads to long term happiness.

YOUR VIBE ATTRACTS YOUR TRIBE

Have you heard of the phrase, you are the sum of the 5 people you spend time with? Well, I love it because it’s very true. If you’ve ever been around negative people, your disposition starts to change. The same goes for spending time with individuals that are positive, that enhance  your life and fill your cup. I’ve made a conscious choice to be very selective about who I allow in my inner circle. When I surround myself with positive energies I immediately feel an energy shift and the universe thanks me for it.

SELF TALK

Self talk is something we do all hours of the day and can even work it’s way through your mind when you’re sleeping. So imagine how important it is to be mindful of the words we use and how we talk to ourselves. We believe what we say. Self talk is a powerful tool which can increase our self confidence, self worth and curb our negative thinking. People who speak positively about themselves lead more positive, happy, and fulfilling lives. Remember, be kind to yourself!

MAKE MENTAL HEALTH A PRIORITY

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Fitness helps our physical bodies get strong, and taking care of our mental health helps us to be happy and resilient. Nurturing our mental health helps us to be creative, happy, enjoy our lives and the people in it. It helps us deal with difficult situations, process emotions, and manage stress. For me, physical health is a priority because I love the way it makes me look but most importantly how it makes me feel. I need it for my mental wellbeing and happiness and I urge everyone to add some sort of physical activity to their daily lives.
